Locals enjoy Florida’s warm temperatures, a world-class tennis center, the historic Marina district, a highly-rated municipal beach, and even a pinball museum.

But if you want to live there and build or remodel a home, which neighborhood should become your home? Check out one of these fine areas in Delray Beach, Florida:

Pineapple Grove: Downtown living

If you are interested in the maintenance-free lifestyle living in a condo or townhouse offers, consider Pineapple Grove as it makes up much of the housing stock. Several new developments are underway, including three hotels, but the area is also full of housing stock that could use a rehabber’s touch.

Banker’s Row: Classic homes and great locations

Do you dream of restoring a classic home to its past glory? Do you want to live close to restaurants, shops, popular nail salons, and access to I-95? Banker’s Row could be exactly what you’re looking for. The area is full of midsized, single family homes that show off the history of South Florida’s housing styles. For families, the area features Atlantic High School has a silver medal in preparing kids for college from U.S. News and World Report, as well as Plumosa School for the Arts and Carver Middle School.

Lake Ida: An outdoor delight

If you love spending your time outside, you may want to consider Lake Ida. With a freshwater lake stocked with sunshine bass, a big dog park, bike trails, places to canoe and kayak and plenty of parks, there are so many options for Delray Beachers to appreciate the great outdoors. There’s even a local theater for community plays and performances. It’s also just east of I-95, making it easy to head to the rest of South Florida. Homes for sale in the area range from $500,000 to well over a million dollars, so a well-rehabbed house could not only be a great home for a family but also a great investment.

Delray Shores: Near everything

Located near I-95, Caloosa Park and several golf courses, if you live in Delray Shores, you can get to work quickly, and then find lots of places to relax when you come home at night. With plenty of established homes built late in the last century, it’s the perfect spot to find a home to rehab or clear out for a newly built home.

Tropic Isle: Right on the water

With the Intracoastal waterway slicing right through Tropic Isle, it’s a great place to live if living near the water is important to you. Most homes are on waterfront property, and show off the vintage style unique in south Florida. Because of the excellent location and large size of the single-family homes in the area, it’s a spot for someone with a large budget. The other way to get into Tropic Isle is to consider a condominium. Either way, homes there that are rehabbed can pick up major value for someone who rehabs it right.

Franwood Pines: Up and coming

With low population density, reasonable housing prices and plenty of home vacancies, Franwood Pines can be the spot for you to build a new home. It’s not far from I-95 and home to the highly rated Banyan Creek Elementary School, making it a great place for families.

High Point: Perfect for older adults

For older, active adults who are looking to rehab or build a new home, think about Kings Point. It’s an unincorporated area just outside Delray Beach and is made up of several adult communities. Most areas have amenities like a clubhouse, a pool, courtesy bus, guest parking, and tennis courts. The homeowners’ association fees also cover things like utilities, cable, and maintenance, so building or rehabilitating a home here could open the door to a stress-free lifestyle.

Villages of Oriole: The place to build for older adults

Like High Point, the Villages of Oriole is an unincorporated area, with Delray Beach to the east and the Everglades to the west, for people aged 55 years or older. Houses are priced inexpensively, and with a lower population density than areas farther east, it’s a great spot to develop and rehabilitate homes for older adults. Like so many communities for older people, you can find amenities like a pool, small ponds, and a clubhouse.
